The photographs on this page were sent in by a member of Orange & District Historical Society in
NSW, Australia.

They have a photograph album from a local family in NSW which, besides photos of family members
and friends in Australia, contains a number of photos originating in Southport,Liverpool and other
nearby places. Two of the family names are Tyrer and Silverlock. These are thought to be of either
relations or friends of the family in Australia.

They would love to be able to send copies to anyone from those families, and would also like to
know a bit more about them. If you recognise any of these as your ancestors, or can provide any other
information, please contact the webmaster.

Some further information about the Silverlock family is included after all of the photos.

The information has been compiled with the assistance of Mrs Chris Nolan of Queensland,
Australia.

Henry James Siverlock married Elizabeth Taylor, Sept Quarter 1867 in the West Derby district of Liverpool. From the 1881 census, Elizabeth was born in Little Budworth, Cheshire in 1839. Henry died March quarter 1871 in West Derby aged 36. I was unable to find Henry in the Liverpool area on any census, or a birth that would match the age given at death.

Children of Henry and Elizabeth, all born in West Derby (Liverpool):

Charles Henry      - born Sept Quarter 1868

Percy Remer        - bornSept Quarter 1869

Herbert John N    - born Mar Quarter 1870 (died Sept Quarter 1870)

Adela Elizabeth    - born Sept Quarter 1871

On the 1881 census, Charles Henry and Percy Remer were scolars at Christs Hospital School, Newgate St, London. Adela is at home with her mother Elizabeth, who is listed as a school teacher, at 53 Brook Road,Bootle

Charles Henry married Anita Fox, Sept Quarter 1904. Anita is on the 1911 census in Great Crosby, with her daughter Marjorie Anita, but Charles is not with them. In the 1901 census Charles was listed as a Mechanical Engineer, and was a boarder with a mariner, so could have been at sea in 1911.

Charles Henry’s death was registered in June quarter 1947 in Liverpool North. His age was given as 78.

Percy Remer was baptised in the parish of Fairfield on 3 November 1869. His father’s profession was listed as General Merchant.

He is listed on board a number of ships. In 1900 he is listed as an apprentice, and then a mate. In 1903 he is also listed as mate. All three voyages went to Sydney. Percy married Mary Frances Brown, Sept Quarter 1908 in Cardiff.

Catherine is on the 1911 census at Llanishenin, Glamorgan, with her son Master PR Silverlock, aged 1 yr 8 months. (Percy Remer’s birth was registered in Cardiff in Sept Quarter 1909. Date of birth given at his death in 1975 was 3rd August 1909). Percy senior was presumably at sea for the 1911 census. The birth of Reginald C Silverlock was registered in Cardiff in June quarter 1912.

Percy Remer’s death was registered in June quarter 1932 in Steyning, Sussex. His age was given as 62.

Adela Elizabeth was baptised at St John’s Church, Bootle on 31st October 1874. Her parents are listed at Henry James (deceased) and Elizabeth, of Brook Road. She married Arthur Birch Hughes at St John’s Church. Bootle on 4th February 1897. Her age is given as 25 and his as 28. On the 1901 census they are living in Litherland, and have 3 children; Arthur J N (3 yrs), Adela A (1yr) and Henry J (3 months) I was unable to find them on the 1911 census or any possible deaths for Adela Hughes after 1901.
