William Herbert Longton was born on 21 December 1895 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire to Thomas Longton & Alice Elkes. He was employed as a Cyclist Apprentice prior to enlisting. William married Jessie Shuttleworth in 1918 and leaves a daughter Alice. William served in the Army as a Sergeant in WW1, service no. 265821 and died on 14 May 1921 in Southport, Lancashire, England. He was buried 18 May 1921 in St. Cuthbert’s Churchyard, Churchtown, Southport.
